Philosophy
The classic definition of sustainable development [or development towards sustainability] as formulated by the Brundtland Commission is forms of progress which meet the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Sustainable development as defined by Forum for the Future is "a dynamic process which enables all people to realize their potential and to improve their quality of life in ways which simultaneously protect and enhance the Earth's life support systems".The word Enterprise derives from the French 'entreprendre' to take in hand or undertake. The word often relates to a bold, risky, difficult, or challenging undertaking. We use the term Sustainable Enterprise to refer to new, innovative or pioneering ventures that create value for entrepreneurs, their people, society and the environment.
We believe:
- Sustainability is about environmental ethics, eco-effectiveness, social responsibility & human rights
- Every social & environmental problem is a business opportunity
- Sustainable Enterprise creates value through the avoidance of costs and risks and the creation of new opportunities
- Sustainable Enterprise can make the world a better place
- Authentic commitment to sustainability will become essential to attract and retain the best people
- Sustainable Enterprise will be rewarded by consumers & shareholders
- Theory, models, stories & tools can inspire Sustainable Enterprise
